Music/Color Wheel

The divisions of the notes of the octave (here shown as the C scale) are based on a circle segmented into 16 equal parts (22.5°). The positions of the notes and the colors on the circle are based on ratios derived from the Inverse Square Law, which states “the intensity of an effect such as illumination or gravitational force changes in inverse proportion to the square of the distance from the source.”

For example, The perfect fifth (dominant complement) of C (tonic) is G. In an equal-tempered scale based on 432Hz tuning (A4), the note C4 has a frequency of 256 Hz. The frequency of its dominant complement, G4, is 384Hz. The ratio of 384 to 256 is 3:2 (3/2=1.5, 256x1.5=384). The ratios shown hold true for the ratios of the frequencies of the notes of any major or minor scale, where the tonic of the scale is placed at the top position of the segmented circle. The same principle applies in inverse to the wavelengths of the sounds, as well as the visible wavelengths of the colors on the spectrum and their relationships.

Chakras

“Chakra” is the Sanskrit word for “Wheel” or “Cycle.” The word has both literal and metaphorical uses, such as “Wheel of Time” or “Wheel of Dharma.” Each chakra is traditionally associated with a focal point of energy, both in the “subtle” (etheric) body, and the physical body. Originally, the 7 colors of the Newtonian spectrum were not associated with the 7 Chakras. Their correspondence here can be shown in the harmonious relationships of their frequencies as they relate to musical scales, and their positions on a segmented circle as they relate to elements of other cyclical systems.

Enneagram

The Enneagram was popularized by the 1949 book “In Search of the Miraculous” by P.D. Ouspensky, while describing a lecture by G.I. Gurdjieff about the symbol. It has since become used by many disciplines. The prefix “ennea-” is Greek for 9. The symbol is based on a circle segmented into 9 equal parts (40°) where point 9 is in the top position, a unique shape comprised of 7 lines, and an equilateral triangle. The positions of the 7 lines are determined by the divisions of the number 7 into the numbers 1 through 7. When 7 is divided this way, each resulting decimal is comprised of repeating sets of 6 digits. The first of each of these sets corresponds with one of the 9 points of the segmented circle, excluding the numbers 3, 6, and 9. All of these sets, without exception, connect the points of the unique shape of the Enneagram. Points 9, 3, and 6 create the triangle, which unifies the symbol and represents All-as-One.
